Design & Technology
At Long Lawford Primary School, we believe that through Design & Technology (DT), children should develop skills and knowledge that prepare them for the wider world.
Children will complete a DT project each half term, focusing on a range of areas, including:
Textiles
Mechanisms
Structures
Cooking & Nutrition
Computer aided design
National Curriculum for DT
Children should use ‘creativity and imagination’ to ‘design and make products that solve real and relevant problems’.
In DT, children make links with ‘mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art”.
Can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences
Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens
Project Work
In each project, children will develop knowledge and skills in each of these stages: Design, Make and Evaluate
Project work includes: Baking & Decorating biscuits, Kite making, making cam toys using mechanisms, Practicing sewing skills
