PE

We’ve achieved the School Games Bronze Award - but what is it?

The School Games Mark is a government-led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.

Our school currently holds the Bronze Award and we are working towards the Silver Award.

We believe that PE plays a vital part in this and supports us to Love, Learn, Persevere and Succeed.  We are fortunate in having excellent facilities which support us in providing the highest standards of education for our pupils, with our two sports halls, large field area and lots of outdoor playground space.  To support our vision, we work in partnership with parents and the community.  We strive to provide a rich variety of experiences which promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Within school we use the scheme PE Passport, which is exciting and engaging for all children from Reception to Year 6.   It covers all aspects of Physical Education throughout a variety of lessons.

How We Teach PE

Each week every class will be getting 2 lessons of PE each.  1 lesson is taught by our specialist PE coach Mr Owen, and the other is taught by your child’s class teacher. This provides a variety of high-quality teaching. We also have other specialist coaches come into school to teach across the school, who offer a range of sports and activities. Years 4, 5 and 6 also get the opportunity to go swimming.

Sport Leaders

We have 12 Sports Leaders in school, six from Year 5 and six from Year 6. Our Sports Leaders have specialist sports leadership training. Their role is to support the running of games and activities at break and lunchtime. They help to plan, organise, and run whole school WOW days, such as sports day

Harris School Sport Partnership

As a school we are part of the Harris School Sport partnership. Through this we benefit from a variety of opportunities:

  • Involved with a range of competitive and non-competitive sporting fixtures at different locations.

  • We receive specialist coaching in school

  • Specialist training and coaching for staff

  • Balance bike training for EYFS

  • Sports leader training
