Writing

Teachers plan and teach to the National Curriculum, ensuring that expectations are age-related. The children enjoy regular high quality phonic, vocabulary, spelling and grammar teaching in order to develop a growing vocabulary for writing. Starting with basics like mark making and letter formation in Early Years, writing progresses through full stops, capital letters and descriptive language by the end of Year 2 and on to complex sentences, semi colons and more!

Curriculum for writing

Each year, children write for an increasing number of audiences and purposes. Our writing often builds on class texts but we also write in our wider curriculum subjects such as... Science, History and RE. We use The Write Stuff to support writing teaching. Children use the Writing Rainbow to help build ideas; choose appropriate grammar and punctuation; and, produce descriptive language. We work as a class to build banks of ideas and a model for our writing on our working walls
